BLM automatic tube bender for Summanen

Challenging traditional tube bending technology and process thinking was the starting point when Metallituote Summanen Oy, after careful consideration, decided last November to invest in a BLM E-Turn 42 tube bender, together with an MT5 3D tube measuring and loading device programmatically integrated with it. This intelligent software-based package, supplied through Fredko, represents the cutting edge of tube bending technology.

Smooth installation and commissioning

“The equipment delivery process was worth a full ten out of ten,” says Tomi Hiltunen from Summanen, continuing: “The delivery time given during training and test runs at BLM Group’s Italian factory was accurate to the minute.” Installation and commissioning were completed during the same week, and the first actual production runs started the following week. Fredko’s factory-trained customer service team acts as the local service partner for BLM equipment.

High-quality bending with dimensional verification

BLM’s E-Turn fully servo-controlled tube bending machines are not only reliable in operation, but also energy-saving. The unique CNC bending head, which rotates 360 degrees, enables both right- and left-hand bends without intermediate grip changes or tool changes. Variable-radius roll bending can also be carried out with the same grip.

The tube bender’s second-generation optical recognition eye, combined with intelligent software technology, identifies tube holes and seams more accurately than its predecessor or other optical systems on the market.

The software’s 3D simulation is a good tool for product design and for selecting production technology. The simulation visualises the programming and shows in advance any human setup and programming errors that may have occurred.

The 3D tube measuring device integrated into the tube bender ensures the dimensional accuracy of bending and corrects the program as required based on the measurement results. “We have offered our customers the first demanding 3D tube measurements and delivered measurement reports as separate projects. I believe that in the future we will be able to make broader use of the measuring device’s capabilities in our offering,” says Tanja Lundén, Managing Director of Metallituote Summanen.

BLM Group tube lasers also through Fredko

At the turn of the year, Fredko also began representing BLM Group’s Adige tube lasers in Finland. Managing Director Pasi Pitkänen states: “Tube lasers are a natural extension for users of tube bending machines, and in this way they nicely complement our tube processing offering.”
